Clear View Insurance
PEO partners · Workers comp

Your master policy declined them. Keep the client anyway.

When your workers comp carrier turns down a prospect for its class, its mod or its losses, the prospect can still sign with you for payroll, HR and benefits. It carries its own comp policy, which Clear View places and services.

Our workers comp carriers, and where each one wins

Nineteen carriers, each with a different sweet spot. A risk one carrier declines as monoline comp is often a fit for another, or for the same carrier once it sees the whole account. Pick a situation, pick a carrier, or tap a state.

Prospect questions

What your prospects ask us

The questions PEO clients raise when their comp moves to its own policy, answered the way we answer them on the call.

We have several EINs and people work across them. How is premium allocated?

When the entities share common majority ownership (more than 50%), NCCI combines their experience into one mod, documented on NCCI's ERM-14 form, and the carrier can list every entity on one policy. Premium is payroll times the class rate times the mod, so when payroll is reported by entity and class, each entity's cost comes out to the cent. The allocation lives in payroll; the premium follows it.

How does pay-as-you-go billing work?

Premium is calculated on actual wages every time payroll runs, split by FEIN and class code, instead of a deposit and an estimate. Depending on the carrier, it runs through the carrier's own payroll connection, a billing service that links payroll and carrier, or a monthly online wage entry. The year-end audit becomes a reconciliation.

What happens when someone gets hurt?
  1. Get the employee care. Many carriers offer a 24/7 nurse line.
  2. Document it the same day: who, what, when, where, how, witnesses.
  3. Report it to the carrier within 24 hours, then call us.
  4. We sort it with you: incident only, medical only or lost time.
  5. Modified duty inside the doctor's restrictions keeps it medical-only.
  6. We stay on the adjuster until it closes.
What happens to our open claims when we switch?

Nothing moves. The carrier on risk on the date of injury handles each claim until it closes. The claims appear on the loss runs, and underwriters look at what caused them and what the company has changed since.

What stays with the client: run payroll, report injuries the same day, keep subcontractor certificates, and provide records for the audit.

Our crews get monthly on-site safety training. Can you keep that going?

Yes. The carrier we place includes loss control and training at no cost, and Clear View adds its own on-site, remote or recorded sessions, OSHA 10 and 30 classes and mock OSHA audits on a published fee schedule. We set the plan on a short discovery call.

The rate

Where the premium comes from

Every piece of the rate moves, and a declined risk usually becomes placeable once someone works each piece.

The workers comp premium formula

Payroll / 100 x loss cost x carrier multiplier x experience mod x (1 ± schedule credit) = premium

PieceWhat it isWhat we do
Loss costThe advisory base rate per $100 of payroll for each classCheck every class code; a misclassified crew costs more than any credit
Carrier multiplierEach carrier's markup on the loss cost (a deviation in Arizona)Send the risk to the carriers with the lowest multiplier for the class
Experience modThe company's own losses against the average, over three yearsRead the worksheet claim by claim and plan for when years drop off
Schedule creditsUnderwriter judgment on safety, training and managementDocument the program so the credit is easy to give
ClaimsA medical-only claim counts at 30% in the mod in NCCI states; lost time counts in fullSame-day reporting and return-to-work
